GLASTONBURY 2016
Common area made by Coreworks
On 23 June, exactly on the day of the Brexit referendum, the GLASTONBURY FESTIVAL started in the UK. The largest festival in Europe (about 150,000 visitors last year) has been in existence since 1970. Since then, all the big names have played here, from The Kinks to U2 and from Amy Winehouse to Adele. This year, again, a line-up to die for. Along with top music performances there were fantastic dance, cabaret and circus acts; no wonder the tickets were sold out inside 25 minutes. And that’s good news because the profits from GLASTONBURY FESTIVAL OF CONTEMPORARY PERFORMING ARTS (as it is known in full) are and have always been for charity.
Of course it is great fun to be involved in this event with our 207‘s. So we crossed over to England to build the decorconstructions for the so-called Common Area, a kind of Indiana Jones jungle setting with a cave (The Cave), totem poles and waterfalls. As regards music, Common Area is known as the creative underground corner of Glastonbury. Of course including voting booths for the referendum!
